I M P R O V E M E N T S

The home was originally designed, constructed and lived in by an architect; as a result, it has superior construction both in the wood frame and in the steel reinforced, concrete foundation, a point frequently remarked upon by construction professionals over the years who were impressed with both the engineering and the build quality
  • We replaced all exterior access sliding doors, every skylight, and nearly every window in the house with Milgard Ultra fiberglass, double-paned insulated windows
  • The large picture windows were also all replaced with custom fabricated double-paned insulated glass units; this preserved the home’s original design but greatly improved its thermal integrity
  • New down-to-the-rafters roof, along with custom flashing was done around 2007
  • Addition and extension of the flagstone patio out into the forest
  • Renovation of the hearth and firebox in the family room; all the stonework and hearth is custom work
  • Installation of the Opel 2 wood-burning firebox with ducting that pulls the heat produced to other parts of the house
  • Addition of the lower level complete in-law unit
  • Addition of the middle level convenience kitchen off the large playroom / media room / studio
  • Addition of the large, tiled and finished storage area on the lower level
  • Replacement of kitchen floors and all new wall-to-wall carpets
  • Custom Quartzite countertops, new cast-iron sink and new refrigerator and dishwasher
  • Bosch double wall-oven, and 5-burner gas cooktop
  • All new interior paint
  • Extensive plumbing upgrades through the house
  • Electric radiant heat floor in the master bath
  • New toilet in powder room
  • On-grid solar array on the roof
  • Addition of the front gate with automatic, in-ground operators and remote or keypad entry

What I Love

  • The forest canyon setting and the serene seclusion it provides
  • Enjoying coffee on the deck in the morning and a glass of wine on the patio in the evening
  • Views across the Ross Valley and down into the canyon below the house
  • Listening to the call of the Red Tail Hawks as they survey from the tops of the Redwood trees
  • Enjoying the gentle fragrance of the Daphne and the Passionflower as it wafts through the patio in the afternoons
  • The garden has always been impeccably maintained by our long-time gardener and includes a diverse mix of botanical treasures
  • Cooking and entertaining have always been fun at the house; the natural flow from the patio through the living room and kitchen out onto the long deck makes for great gatherings
  • The way the many skylights and huge walls of glass bring the light and forest feel into the home
  • Cozying up on inclement days in front of the wood-burning firebox
  • With the trailheads and fire roads of the Mt. Tam watershed just minutes up the hill we’ve spent a lot of time walking, hiking, and riding bikes in some gorgeous terrain
  • The proximity to restaurants, Woodland’s Market and the Magnolia shops means there’s always great dining and shopping options close at hand

Neighborhood

Some of the most beautiful properties in Marin can be found in Kentfield, a quiet community of spacious, older homes sited on large, lushly landscaped parcels. The nerve center of this small, residential community is perhaps Woodlands Market, a unique gourmet grocery store, bakery, wine bar, and cafe. For more than 25 years, Woodlands Market has been the place where Kentfield residents can socialize and shop and the same time. Kentfield is home to the College of Marin, a two-year community college with a strong local presence. The College of Marin offers adult classes to the public and has a vibrant performing-arts program of theater, vocal, and classical music. The frequent public performances provide residents with access to culture not normally found in a community of less than 7,000 residents.
